About New Zealand Greenshell Frozen Mussels 新西兰半壳熟冻青口贝

New Zealand’s coastal waters are internationally recognized as some of the cleanest and most carefully managed marine environments in the world. Greenshell mussels, farm-raised along these coasts, benefit from stable ocean temperatures, unpolluted waters, and strict sustainability standards. This ensures not only a healthy growing environment but also consistent quality and safety in every mussel harvested.

Farm-raised advantage
Unlike wild mussels that may vary in size and quality depending on season and environment, farm-raised Greenshell mussels are grown under monitored conditions. New Zealand’s aquaculture industry is regulated to meet strict food safety and environmental protection standards. As a result, the mussels are free from harmful contaminants, traceable to their source, and harvested in a way that preserves marine ecosystems. This means you can enjoy them with confidence.

Extra-large size
One of the defining features of New Zealand Greenshell mussels is their size. Compared to common mussels from other regions, these mussels grow larger and fuller thanks to the nutrient-rich waters and optimal farming methods. The meat is plump, with a bright orange-green hue that reflects its freshness and vitality. Larger mussels also mean more substantial portions per shell, making them both visually striking on the plate and satisfying to eat.

Pre-cooked and frozen
To capture peak freshness, the mussels are steamed immediately after harvest and then frozen. This process seals in their natural sweetness and tender texture while ensuring food safety. Pre-cooking also makes them more convenient—no need to worry about undercooking or raw handling; they’re ready to use once thawed.

Half-shell format
The half-shell presentation is both practical and aesthetic. It makes the mussels easier to prepare since half the work has already been done, and it creates an attractive appearance for serving at the table. Whether placed on a sizzling grill, steamed with garlic and herbs, or baked with cheese, the half-shell adds a natural “plate” that enhances both presentation and flavor.

Cooking guidance
Before cooking, allow the mussels to thaw naturally in the refrigerator to maintain texture and flavor. Avoid hot water thawing, which can cause loss of juiciness. If cooking with the shells on, it is important to rinse and scrub the shells carefully, as natural residues may remain on the surface. Clean shells not only improve food safety but also ensure an appealing final presentation.
