The Story Behind the Feast: Celebrating Myanmar and the ESEA Community

Last Sunday, beneath the railway arches of Kiju Coffee House, the air was warm with the aroma of toasted sesame, lemongrass, and tamarind. We gathered for the Burmese Supper Club, an evening that promised a journey through the bold flavors of Myanmar.

But as the night unfolded, it became clear that we were sharing much more than a delicious meal.

Honoring Heritage and Diaspora

Food is rarely just sustenance; it is an archive of our heritage. Behind the sizzling woks and the joyful clatter of plates lay a deeper narrative—a vibrant celebration of Myanmar and the resilient East and Southeast Asian (ESEA) community here in the UK.

This evening was fundamentally about amplifying voices. All proceeds from the supper club proudly went to the Sesame Organisation, a charity tirelessly working to promote racial harmony and empower the ESEA diaspora. Sharing a meal is one of the most profound ways to pause, connect, and show solidarity with the diverse cultures that weave our community together.

The Finest Foundations for Authentic Stories

Burmese cuisine is a beautiful tapestry of bold, contrasting elements. Through his bespoke three-course menu, Chef Min Maung Maung brought the absolute soul of his homeland to the table.

At Celeplate, our promise has always been “Farm-Market Fresh, East-Asian Taste.” We believe that authentic cultural stories deserve the finest foundations. That is why we were honored to provide the premium meat and seafood for Chef Min’s traditional recipes.

Watching our carefully sourced ingredients—the tender Spanish Duroc pork belly simmering in the savory Wat Thar Pone Yae Gyi, and the fresh king prawns crisping in the Mandalay Pe' Kyaw—come alive in his masterful hands was a reminder of why we do what we do. It was our way of honoring this heritage and standing firmly with the ESEA community.

Recreate the Magic at Home

The supper club may have ended, but the memories—and the flavors—don't have to fade. Because every great dish is, at its heart, a shared history that can be retold in your own kitchen.

If Sunday sparked a craving, or if you simply fancy recreating a little bit of that culinary magic at home, the very same premium cuts Chef Min trusted are waiting for you.

Bring the restaurant experience home. We’ll provide the fresh ingredients; you bring the fire.
