About Fresh Lady fish 新鲜沙尖鱼

The Ladyfish, scientifically known as 'Polydactylus sextarius', goes by various regional names. It's called 'Sand Ling' in the north, while in the southern regions, it's referred to as 'Sand Point Fish'. This marine fish is not only valued for its delectable meat but is also a popular choice among beach anglers.

The Ladyfish thrives in the sea, boasting a succulent taste. It has a penchant for nestling its body into warm sands, with its head peeking out, and has a diet consisting mainly of green worms and shrimps. Physically, it has a slender cylindrical shape, a conical head, small mouth, and large eyes. Its scales are fine and easily shed.

The back of the fish is a yellow-brown hue, with a paler belly and a slightly concave tail fin. Predominantly found in the tropical waters of the Indo-West Pacific region, its distribution stretches from South Africa's Knysna to Japan, and includes areas like Australia, New Caledonia, Turkey, and China's coastal areas, with a higher yield in the western Guangdong region.

The spawning season for the Ladyfish ranges from late spring to summer, peaking between June and September. A single female can lay about 2,000 floating eggs at dawn, with the capability of spawning multiple times in a year. Approximately 21 hours post-fertilization, the eggs hatch. Both juvenile and fry fish are pelagic, forming schools and primarily feeding on plankton.
